Challenge

Our client acts as one of the world’s leading  integrators in terms of high quality lane solutions for airport security checkpoints. Its state of the art lane solution integrates an automated lane design with configurable multiplex screening software, being scalable and flexible in differing situations.

Our client strongly ties its design process to local requirements and dependencies, being able to customize its solution for optimized performance. Point FWD helps this client to asses the local situation by capturing the process and modelling for a functional design of its integrated lane solution.

Approach and Output

To provide our client its accurate design input we have performed baseline performance measures providing essential input for the lane design process. A complete data capture on the local security process with Point FWD in-house tooling has been performed.

Process data of all subprocesses at the security checkpoint are captured, as well as passenger demographics, baggage content, alarm(s) + resolution, and more data is tracked as passengers are followed going through the checkpoint. Captured data is been amended with all available checkpoint trial data such as security scanner and x-ray data and reference data from non-trial lanes.

The result is a highly detailed determination of the baseline performance covering full checkpoint CONOPs and all equipment present. With this baseline, our client is capable of successfully tying its lane design to the local situation and thereby steers on actual process insights and client needs.

The above approach outlines just one of the client engagements Point FWD has been involved in for its integrator client. One of the key values is the accuracy of design input, which in many airport cases is unknown due to a lack of in-depth and relevant quantitative process insights. Point FWD has been adding value to its approach every time a new airport has been added to the list of assessment.
