2nd Free Aviation Security Masterclass - Security Design and Optimisation

Free Masterclass Aviation Security

The Point FWD Masterclass Series is created for airport professionals who want to gain a clear, structured understanding of what it takes to guide security checkpoint change projects successfully.

This second edition focuses on the tactical approach to security design and optimisation, from understanding the logic behind checkpoint configurations and capacity modelling to identifying bottlenecks and developing structured improvement plans.

Led by senior experts from Point FWD, the session combines operational experience with data-driven insights, providing practical handles to stabilise throughput, improve asset utilisation and build a sustainable optimisation approach within your own airport environment.

Meet the experts

Gunther van Adrichem

Gunther is an industry-leading specialist in aviation security and checkpoint innovation. With a long-standing background as an AVSEC expert, he has been at the forefront of developing and implementing next-generation screening concepts, from early security scanner certification programs to large-scale checkpoint redesigns.

Robin van Gemert

Robin is an experienced program manager and transition consultant, supporting major European airport hubs in managing their full-circle security transitions, from initial capacity studies to procurement and implementation. Robin bridges the gap between strategic planning and daily operations.

Understanding security screening optimisation

Your equipment is in place. The lanes are running. But are they performing at their true potential?

Whether you are operating conventional setups, preparing for transition, or stabilising newly deployed advanced screening lanes (CT, ATRS and Security Scanners), the real challenge lies in optimisation. Asset utilisation, operator performance, throughput stability and bottleneck control determine whether your checkpoint performs predictably or under pressure.

This masterclass focuses on helping you take control of your current and future security configuration. Not in theory, but in daily practice.

What you will learn

We focus on how to optimise both existing and newly deployed screening lanes, ensuring stability, predictability and measurable performance improvement.

Topics include:

  • Understanding the logic behind checkpoint design and capacity modelling, and how bottlenecks structurally shape throughput performance.

  • Identifying and analysing key impact factors such as staffing, layout, alarm rates, divest/reclaim design and arrival patterns.

  • Developing a structured and realistic improvement plan.

  • Practical do’s and don’ts in real airport security optimisation cycles.

  • Tooling, dashboarding and quick-start approaches to initiate immediate improvement cycles.

The goal is simple: we will give you clarity, structure and practical handles to optimise your checkpoint with confidence.

For who is this masterclass?

This masterclass is created for airport security employees and operational professionals responsible for checkpoint performance, optimisation and daily operational control. Next to this, also

If you are working on improving utilisation, stabilising throughput, or preparing your operation for future transition, this session is for you.

Why join

Many checkpoints operate below their true potential. Throughput fluctuates, assets are underutilised, and small inefficiencies accumulate into structural performance gaps. Often, the issue is not the technology itself, but the logic behind the design, the interaction between sub-processes, and the absence of a structured optimisation approach.

This masterclass helps you understand the mechanics behind checkpoint performance. You will gain insight into how design choices influence capacity, how bottlenecks shift under pressure, and how modelling can provide direction instead of assumptions. More importantly, you will learn how to translate that insight into a realistic improvement plan that fits your airport environment.

Expect practical examples, clear do’s and don’ts, and concrete starting points you can apply immediately. Not abstract theory, but operational logic that works in practice.

If you are responsible for checkpoint performance, this session will give you the structure and confidence to move from reacting to managing.
