Project description

The process of moving passengers through an airport needs to be secure, seamless, rapid and deliver a positive experience for all travellers. Vanderlande cooperates closely with airports to provide the core components of the security process through innovative systems and intelligent software solutions.

As part of our next generation of scalable solutions – evolutions – Vanderlande offers PAX Checkpoint. This combines state-of-the-art automated screening lanes with a configurable multiplex screening software to create a fully integrated checkpoint solution. Scalable and flexible, it offers increased throughput and an improved passenger experience while allowing for easy expansion.

Challenges

The trial project was part of a strategic initiative by the airport to assess advanced lane technology in a live operational environment. Vanderlande, as a trusted integrator of high-quality checkpoint systems, was selected to deliver a tailored solution within this program. Point FWD was engaged as the specialised Avsec partner to ensure a smooth and performance-driven trial, bridging operational, technical and regulatory requirements.

Our solution

Point FWD’s role was to provide comprehensive guidance throughout the entire trial process. Our longstanding collaboration with Vanderlande and familiarity with their lane systems enabled us to support both strategic direction and day-to-day implementation. The trial was set up to simulate full operational deployment, requiring end-to-end alignment between Vanderlande, the airport, and its security stakeholders.

We first supported the technical preparation phase by guiding the definition and execution of Factory and Site Acceptance Testing protocols, ensuring the trial system was fit for purpose before entering the operational environment. In parallel, we developed and delivered a customised end-user training programme focused on operational readiness and human-machine interaction.

Once the system was installed and running in the live environment, we provided real-time performance monitoring, issue resolution, and feedback loops to drive continuous improvement throughout the duration of the trial. This approach ensured that key metrics—throughput, reliability, and user experience, could be measured and optimised.
