Project description
Within the Mercurius Project at Schiphol Airport, Vanderlande introduced their passenger checkpoint solution, an innovative and adaptable security lane (PAX Advanced) designed to meet Schiphol’s growing security needs. The lane is integrated with an advanced EDSCB machine from Analogic (ConneCT) with image processing provided by Vanderlande’s Central Image Processing solution (PAX Multiplex). To guarantee a seamless operational trial, Vanderlande partnered with Point FWD for the design and execution of an extensive training program tailored specifically for security operators from G4S, CTSN, and I-SEC. The objective was clear: equip staff with thorough understanding of the new system setup, operational procedures, and interface functionalities, enabling a smooth transition to a more efficient, compliant, and operator-friendly security checkpoint environment.
Challenges
The introduction of the Pax Advanced solution posed several critical challenges:
Operators had limited familiarity with the new lane setup and Pax Viewing Station (PVS) GUI.
The advanced security lane introduced operational complexities due to multiple new features and components.
Differences in operational procedures and standards among the involved security companies required harmonization through targeted training.
Our solution
Point FWD leveraged its extensive AVSEC expertise to develop a tailored and phased training approach, seamlessly integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application. Our program commenced with Train-the-Trainer sessions, empowering trainers with in-depth knowledge of the new security system. Subsequently, we rolled out comprehensive classroom-based and On-the-Job training sessions for over 200 operators, ensuring extensive operator readiness and engagement.
Close collaboration with all stakeholders; Vanderlande, Schiphol Airport, and the security companies, allowed us to deliver training aligned closely with regulatory standards, procedural requirements, technology functionalities, and the airport's security culture.
Our comprehensive solution included the following components:
Initial Train-the-Trainer sessions involving 25 senior trainers, empowering them with in-depth understanding of the new security technology and operational procedures.
Over 20 classroom-based training sessions and practical On-the-Job coaching sessions delivered to more than 200 operators, ensuring thorough hands-on experience.
Development and delivery of key operational documents including detailed Concept of Operations (CONOPS), comprehensive work instructions, and user-friendly Quick Reference Cards.
Implementation of a structured feedback collection and integration process, capturing and addressing over 100 feedback points from operational staff.
Coordination and continuous alignment through weekly stakeholder meetings with Vanderlande, Schiphol Airport, and security companies, ensuring consistent operational alignment and effectiveness.
Through these measures, we ensured alignment with regulatory requirements, operational efficiency, technological integration, and operator readiness, ultimately facilitating a smooth transition towards the new checkpoint environment.
